#231119: The Sunday Weekly update
day-to-day notes
-
On Monday I had loads of fun with the track that I've been kinda working on for some time. After number of changes, and most importantly number of iterations on lyrics, it seems to finally check out (well, but the end of the week more changes and improvements in structure of the song, because of the show, mainly), and because I'm not gonna be the one singing at the end, I was just playing around with trying to sing some polyharmonic voices. I'm also quite happy with the arrangements and groovy bassline. I'm lately realising more and more how the bassline is such an important element of many of songs I'm writing recently.

On Tuesday I work heavily on two tracks for a scene, let's call it DK. It contains actually three songs, one is very blatant, in-your-face, kind of 'commercial' techno type of track with slovene lyrics inspired by some pretty lame musical entertainers in the region, second is pretty cool trap/bass beat with lyrics hinting on jealous guy, but in a bit of exYu style, and thirdly is complete punk rework of Johhny B Goode track, aluding on erectile disfunction. Well, nuff said.

While Wednesday was kinda unproductive, on Thursday I tried to prepare more code for the Algorave, recorded vocals with M for two tracks for Mad Jakale project, and produced a Kamizdat Rentgen webcover.
-
On Friday I recorded a silent video, just as an experiment, on my studio backstairs. A day before I discovered an internet phenomenon called "The Backrooms" and suddenly the idea to call the upcoming membership project "The Backroom Tone" was just not sitting right. After some searching and word juggling I came to the idea of backstairs. 'The Backstairs Tone' was born. At least a name, an idea, and it seems perhaps even better, more authentic, as I can maybe really record some, ugh, vlogs (video journals) there, as if I'd have a conversation with people who are this generous to throw money at me.

Yesterday, Saturday, the first rehearsal for Mad Jakale project in this last, final stretch. We were working in this very movement-based body work with slow ambiental musical structure, with piano, rain, wind, crackling of wood, long synth pads and strings. It is beautiful to watch, and adjust the music for it. On of the more finished scenes I would say.
After the rehearsal I was trying to finish my preparation for the Algorave, but in some way failed to achieve at least two thirds of ideas I had, so I played somewhat improvised session with long stretches where I changed too little in terms of layers and structure. I have however managed to use cutoff filter and Pbind's chord expansion to a good effect. Seemed like the crowd was quite happy, and I received some compliments from other performers (perhaps more of a politeness than anything - although they seemed honest).

Today, Sunday, my mother got sick, so I was late on our MJ rehearsal, where we worked on three different scenes. One of them is difficult for me, because it's "full of foley" and references. I really need to organize it, prepare all kinds of little samples for it, sound-process some song-references, and write myself some kind of functional CUE-player in SuperCollider where I can have all the tracks and cues in a GUI.
so what really mattered this week?
- making and editing music:
